    Jet pump pressure switch issues
My jet pump was working fine until we replaced the filter... now the pump will not turn on until there is no water left in the bladder and no water is being delivered to the house. After approximately 45 seconds the switch will activate and the pump will run returning the bladder back to its normal running pressure. I checked the pressure of the bladder and that is not the issue, it is not water logged. The pump and pressure switch are 4.5 years old, are located in my basement as we have a sand point water system and are kept reasonably free of damp. Is this a pressure switch problem?

Have you checked the small tube from the control box for a clog? Let me know, Tom

Tom nailed it. Good chance the copper tube that connects from the pressure switch to the pump is plugged. Most likely its plugged at not only in the tubing itself, but more likely at the fitting on the pressure switch, or fitting on the pump. Start by removing all fitting and the tubing and clear it all out. I find that most times it is actually plugged in the pump housing itself where the 90 degree fitting connects the pressure switch tube to the pump housing. So, remove the elbow on the pump housing, and use a screwdriver etc to clear that port. If all seems clean, simply replace the pressure switch. Please let us know what you find.

Well now the whole damned thing is in need of repair... a pipe blew off and soaked everything... pump had to be re-primed, and the pressure switch is soaked and the pump won't turn off at all now... Any way, had a neighbor look at it before it all blew up, he says it was probably the points on the pressure switch and it needs to be replaced... and now the pipes do to... Grrrrr... So anyway, while we have it apart we will be checking for any blockages, thanks guys!

What happened? Did the contacts stick and cause the pump to over pressure the system? What type of connection blew apart? Please keep us informed. Thanks for the update. Tom

Ok... so after a comedy of errors my husband and our neighbor decided to check the line that runs between the pump and the pressure switch, (it's actually a small rubber hose and not a copper pipe). The line was in fact clear, but the connector between the two, in the housing, was plugged! Maybe next time someone will listen... I now have new pressure switch, gage, and lines... Ah well long story short I can have a shower! Whooo-hooo!!
