Bad vss and no check engine light?
93 Civic EX speedo sometimes acts erractically,no check engine light, took it to the shop and mechanic said the VSS was OK.Car shudders at 35mph.

The Instrument Panal Cluster (IPC) may be bad. I would likely, however, replace the VSS first. How did the mechanic actually test the VSS?

I'm not really sure,he drove the car and it didn't do it,he said he would have to see what it was doing in order to tell me whether it was the VSS or the cluster itself.

Again, my bet is that the VSS is failing; hence, the shudder at 35 mph. If it was the IPC, there likely would not be the shudder, just an erratic speedometer reading. Finally, replacing the VSS is inexpensive and an easy do-it-yourself job. It's located on the back of the transmission, close to the firewall. Simply remove the connector, two 8mm bolts, and the VSS. Honda IPCs are very reliable and not prone to failing.
