    Two things - very critical
    Hi Expert,

I have two things to ask

    1) I sent my federal and state forms both to the IRS address. I realized I have to send state form to separate address. Can I now send JUST the state form to the state address. When IRS receives the packet with my federal and state form, will they reject the packet or just the state form?

    2) I got married last year and filed as "Married filing jointly". Thus I attached a W7 form with my federal form to request for ITN number. BUT I forgot to attach the notarized passport copy.

Considering that there are few more days left for the deadline, can both of these be resolved?

    Thanks!

    1. Send state forms to the state address. IRS will process your federal tax return and ignore state tax return.
    2. Your W-7 will be rejected. You will get letter from IRS.

Hi Mukta, Can't I send the notarized passport copy separately using 1040X?

Don't send the passport copy without having any feedback from the IRS, you would just create a mess if it overlaps with their rejection letter. You should either wait for the rejection letter and then send an amended return will all documents included or call them and ask if you can send the passport copy now before they process the return.

Yes get the state mailed into the state, before the deadline, you have already filed the federal, and they will just ask for additional info, do not send anything till you get a letter back with a ID number so that everything finds it way to the right location

Agreed; WAIT for the IRS rejection letter, then send the notarized passport photocopies. Sending overlapping submissions only causes confusion and delays the process even more.

OK. I have done two things
    1) Submitted application at USPS to recall my mail(as it hasn't been delivered yet)
    2) Sent state form separately.

One question though - If I send another packet now with federal forms, that would definitely reach before IRS starts processing my previous packet. Will that help?

You should wait and see if the recall was successful. If yes, send out your federal return again, if not, you should wait for feedback from the IRS before you send anything else.
