    Replacement B&S engine
I have a 1962 Simplicity Tiller 1005 (1600400) w/o an engine. I need a replacement engine. My research tells me the OEM was a Briggs & Stratton 5 HP model 130292. When I search for that Model I come up empty. Is there a replacement Hoizontal Shaft that will bolt up to my tiller?

    Thanks

    Hi,
Well, maybe. Does this happen to be an engine that used the camshaft to supply the reverse? I think it is. I worked for a Simplicity dealer in the 1980's and they did reverse two different ways; one was using an extension of the camshaft turning at half-speed and the other was to make a figure 8 shape with the belt. I think you have the first and there is no direct replacement to that engine.
That said, I think that the newer 126332 0036 will bolt up and have the correct dimensions. This lnk goes to the B&S parts list:

And #46 is the camshaft. A representative type number would be 3087 and, if you look, it uses a special cam.
If you check in my "Sticky" at the top of any page, you will find links to various replacement engine suppliers who may be able to help. I could not find line drawings of the old engine to see if the height from the mount base to the centerline of the crankshaft was the same, but many of the more generic versions of this engine family switched over to the above number.
    Peace,
    Clarke
