Can't find this book anywhere! Not even a hint on Google.
Can't remember the name of this book and I can't find it anywhere. Story line that I remember is that a Native American woman (or perhaps she just lives in a tribe) unwilling marries a tradesman in her tribe. Since he is gone for long periods, she ends up having an affair with another man in the tribe and when her husband returns she tries to say that he made her pregnant. Not believing her, she flees and ends up giving birth to twins (a boy and a girl) in a cave, and for some reason I can't remember -- maybe the boy was still born, she leaves the boy and takes the girl and runs. The husband finds the boy, dead, and (creepily) ends up smoking the corpse and keeping it with him saying the boy was "his son" and his spirit would guide him to the boy's mother. The husband continues to chase after the mother and daughter to kill them. The woman ends up meeting a wanderer or outcast who helps her run for her life and her daughter's. All I can remember at the moment. Odd book but I would like to read it again so if you recognize it please let me know.
