My mother is Executrix of her mother's will. My mother lives in California; my grandmother resided in NY. When my grandmother died, my mother had to fly to NY and stay in NY in order to deal with her estate.

There was no fee mentioned in the will for the Executor, but does my mother, as Executrix, have a right to get reimbursed for her travel expenses?

I can only tell you what I was allowed to be reimbursed for when I was the Executor of my Father's Estate. I was allowed travel expenses and other fees such as postage and printing, etc. I never took them, however. I figured my Father never got paid for raising me, I was not going to take anything more than what he had designated in his will.

Your Mother should check with her attorney or the attorney handling the estate.

Well shy gave you the right answer. The Executor of an estate has the right to be reimbursed for expenses incurred in performing their duties.

But I disagree with her decision not to accept reimbursement.

Its probably too late, but the issue is not what your father got paid for raising you (I submit he got paid in the satisfaction of doing a good job, which he clearly did). But he designated you as Executor in his will. Therefore, he expected you to be reimbursed for your expenses. So, in effect, that reimbursement WAS designated in the will.

Being the executor of an estate can be big headache and definitely takes time and effort. The executor is entitled to reimbursement for that effort.
