Hi, I have 2 question that confuse me about internet businesses

1-It is legal to file self employment tax for mlm marketing in New York?
2-Participating, recluting people in a mlm affiliate site can affect my Unemployment benefits in New York?

1) It is not only LEGAL, it is REQUIRED. There is NO self-employment tax per se for NY state, though there IS a small business tax for NY City.

2) That is more a LEGAL question rather than a TAX question, better addressed in the LAW forum, but, off-hand, In my opinion, running a business WILL in fact affect your unemployment benefits ANYWHERE in the United States.
