My boyfriend violated his parole in California and has served his violation time. He also has multiple felony warrants outstanding in Virginia. His release date has came and went 3 days ago, now were waiting on VA to pick him up. My question being , how long does Virginia have to pick up and inmate after his release date in California?

Has Virginia notified California that it expects to extradite him?

If he is held past his release date then the state has been notified and said the plan on picking him up. They normally don't hold them past 3 or 4 weeks. He has the right to a extradition hearing of course, But they will make arrangements for him, there is little he can do at this point, He needs to start making bail arrangements in VA.
