There are plenty of ways on how to know if he's going to do it again but you're still doubting him because he destroyed your trust and he disappointed you. Saying and promising that he won't do it again may not be to gain back your trust in him but it's a start. Communicate to him how you feel about it. Tell him that he needs to earn your trust not just by saying promises but by taking an extra mile to make you feel emotionally secured with him. The text was cheating and I don't know how you treat cheaters but it seems like you give away second chances easier than most people after a heartbreak.
