400 Amp Meter Socket Upgrade, Can I Re-use Existing Metered Panel?
I am doing a service upgrade from 200 Amp to a 400 Amp service. The existing service is an all in one 200 Amp metered service panel. The plan is to install a new 320/400 Amp socket meter and install a second 200 Amp panel.

My question is, am I able to remove the meter from the existing 200 Amp panel and still use it with the new service by placing a meter cover socket blank on the meter socket? If I am able to re-use the existing panel is there anything else I should be aware of?

    Thanks in advance.

I do not see a problem with your plan, providing the meter opening is properly covered and sealed. You should consult with your local electrical inspector to determine if he will accept this plan, before you proceed too far.

He may not want to rely on jumpers in the meter, and he may not allow you to install lugs on the load side of the panel to eliminate the meter.
