Have a Murray lawn tractor, 11 HP Briggs, 38" cut. I shut it off to add gas and it never refired. Bypassed all safeties and saw I needed to chrge battery which I did. Turns over just fine. In checking spark (Screwdriver in spark plug cabel to ground) found there was none. Don't know this electrical system. Any thoughts? Does 12VDC go to the coil? Magnet is good.

Do not agree with the safety switch bypassing. It is rare to have what you describe happen except with a faulty key switch. And no if 12V gets to the armature ground. You will need a new one.
Try isolating the engine by unplugging the ignition ground wire near the starter, usually white.
