We just bought a 30 year old house last year. The electric baseboard heater in our bedroom worked when we moved in, but conked out after 3 months. We decided to replace them with a new Dimplex baseboard heater and a Honeywell thermostat. Everything worked well for 1-2 months, then the heater stopped working despite cranking the thermostat up. 1-2 weeks later, it started to work again. Then it stopped again. I have taken the heater off and the thermostat off twice now to check the wiring (I suspected a loose connection) but all wires are connected and the heater still doesn't work. I don't suspect that the heater or thermostat are faulty, and I am starting to think that the old heater and thermostat didn't actually conk out, but that there is some underlying problem that I am unaware of. Any suggestions?

Hi Eric, is the heater on a dedicated circuit? Maybe another j-box with a loose connection in it. Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I can't quite figure out what fuse controls the heater because when I take the fuse out for a known heater, that heater won't heat, but the wires are still live (according to my non-contact tester). So if I managed to find the right fuse for the non-operational heater, I won't know. I'm probably going to have to break down and call an electrician to figure it out and maybe map my fuse box for me.

Hi again Eric, this site has some outstanding experts that may be able to help more, so don't give up just yet. I'm like you and think a loose connection, and I would look near where you made the connection at the new heater (or maybe a damaged wire) since it worked for a couple of months after moving the wires in that area. Hang in awhile. Good luck
