What is the age when a teen can have sex without it being statutory rape?
My friend is 14 and is dating a 42 yr old, in secret, of course. How old does she have to be for this to be legal? She REALLY wants to no! Please don't judge her, it just sort of happened... Anything of help will really be awesome thanks!

It really depends on location, but as most of the USA is 18 and the UK is 16 this is definitely under the statutory Rape category..

I would also be seriously concerned about a 42 year old ADULT "dating" a 14 year old CHILD.
This is a serious issue alone!!

I don't judge her but the man is a creep. This is just wrong on a lot of levels. This is definitely rape

Dating doesn't just happen. Sex does happen.

What are you asking? Sex or dating?

If the parents forbid contact he can be charged with parental interference. Obviously if it's a sexual relationship he's at best a pervert and molester.

No one is judging - she's 14 and legally a child.

You should report this activity to the police immediately

This is not judging, it is just the truth, the man is a pedophile and this is a sick and unhealthy relationship and the child is being used. You should report it to the police

Please post back and tell us you have reported this to the police. She is being taken advantage of and being used. Even if there is currently no sex between them, a 42 year old involved with a 14 yr old is sick and needs to be put away. Once your friend gets older he WILL dump her and go after some other young innocent.

As far as legalities. ANY involvement this man has with her is subject to parental approval until she is 18 . That holds true in all of the US and most of the rest of the world.

He's not a pervert or anything she REALLY likes him is all

But is he reciprocating? If so he IS pervert. No normal 42 yr old would be involved with a 14 yr old.

What does "dating" mean? Do they go out to places? If so, what does she say to her parents before she leaves the house?

For starters - I don't believe ANY parents would agree to their daughter dating when there's this type of age difference.

Now, if the parents think the boyfriend is the father of a friend, maybe they don't know, yes, I understand their permission. Of course, that makes him a pervert AND a sleaze but...

That's odd, because they were dating in secret when you started this thread.

I notice that you have a number of questions about your friends.

If you are her friend you will report this to Child Protective Services in your area before your friend is injured OR pregnant or both.

She wasn't hiding it from her parents but she is hiding it from everyone else the child protective services in my area are very slow going and don't pay much attention to cases like this I was raped when I was 12 by a family member and it took two years after reporting it to even get assigned a social worker they had to 'investigate matters' before anything could be done this question is old anyway she is no longer dating the man now she cut it off a few months ago

I'm going to be brutally frank. You switch stores and switch stories and switch stories and not just on this thead.

An hour or so ago you posted: "her parents no and they dont care at all they told her so one time when she asked about it"

Now she no longer dates him. I guess a lot can happen in an hour. But, wait - she cut it off a "few months ago" but the question was posted 4 months ago with follow up in May (2 months ago) and today (1 hour ago).

I hate game playing. I hate "kids" on adult boards.

So rather than attempting to help your friend you're going to tell us about your rape at the hands of a family member and how no one did anything? I find it impossible to believe it took two years for a Social Worker to be assigned to the case. I suppose it can happen, but I find more than difficult to believe.

I personally think you have wasted everybody's time. Either tell the story "straight" or keep it to yourself.

    Appears so.

And in 2 1/4 years, OP still doesn't know how to spell "know". Sad. :(

Oh. Wait. Post #13. There's hope after all. :)

She's busy raising rats to be fed to snakes - but that's a whole other topic. Rat raisers don't have to be able to spell.

If the parents know, they are guilty of child neglect, the pedophile is guilty of rape.

And I think you are guilty of making most of this up, Soon no one here will answer you, if you keep making it up and if it proves untrue most likely it will be deleted ( I am a moderator)
So either tell one story and the truth
