I have a well that as I removed the old pump that was left on the well it broke off the inner pipe. The inner pipe slide down at least 6 or 7 feet and in an attempt to retrieve it it pushed down several more feet. Course it doesn't matter how deep it is, to retrieve it is the problem. I may have to pay a well guy $1200 to pull it and set up a new pump since he would charge me a few hundred just to come pull the pipe. I know they have a device but is there a way to retrieve a pipe that has slipped down inside it's outer casing?

Many have tried, and all that have tried have failed from what I have seen. Time to get the well guy in there and see what he can do. Please do let us know what the outcome is. I would be very interested in learning of a tried and true way of retrieving lost pipe and pump from a well. I hate to say it, but if the well is extremely old, you may be looking at a new well.

Get a funnel slightly smaller than inside diameter of well casing.
Get PVC pipe larger than outside diameter well pipe.
Get small nylon rope.
Cut off spout of funnel where diameter is smaller than than PVC pipe.
Cut slots in small end of funnel to make tabs. Cut slot in large end of funnel larger than diameter of rope. Open tabs and screw funnel to pipe. Screw heads to the inside.
Tie rope in slip knot.
Tape rope loop to inside of funnel with duct tape near front edge.
Guide funnel and pipe down well casing and over well pipe.
Pull rope
