    Varsity Tryout Information
    All right you, here is what I have to have for the Varsity cheerleader tryouts.

    1.A killer dance routine
    2.Atleast a roundoff backhandspringbackhandspring or a roundoff backhandspring toetouch
    3.A toetouch(pref 2 in a row)a herkie, a front hurdler

    So if anyone has any advice,opinions or just thoughts on this then I would really really be grateful!

    I appreciate your eagerness learn and participate in this sport.

    A few things, however...

    1. As far as a killer dance routine goes - well, choreography is just not going to be a happening thing via the Ask Me Help Desk. :)

    You can however scout out some music that you want to use that fits your style, personality, and attitude. I would also suggest that you find some videos of various routines that include dance and/or gymnastics elements. Some examples include but are not limited to

    a) gymnastics floor routines from any level of competition, of course
    b) once in a while you can catch the World Aerobic Championships on TV which has some good stuff
    c) cheerleading competitions of course
    d) dancing competitions
    e) movies like Save the Last Dance, Step It Up, You Got Served, Stomp The Yard, and classic musicals like Grease and West Side Story are excellent sources for ideas too

    Watch the videos to gain some inspiration for your own routine. Try to do moves that come naturally to you so that you feel comfortable in what you are doing.

    2. Here I will have to honestly suggest that you get some trained help. These skills are just too advanced to try alone. You really need a spotter and someone to provide you with immediate feedback when you are just learning a skill.

    3. Practice, practice, practice!

    When doing two or more jumps back to back, it is critical to understand the difference between jumping and rebounding. You need to be a good rebounder to have strong consecutive jumps. A good plyometrics program can be good for this.

    Strength and conditioning are essential for success. Start right away!

    Here is a link I came across too that may prove helpful. Some of the information I have already mentioned but there is more good stuff there too.

    I agree with rudi in, I was really bad at cheerleading and thought I could do the gymnastics by myself but I was wrong

    4 tumbling: Make sure you go to a gym!! If u try 2 teah skills yourself, you will either get hurt, learn it wrong or both!
    4 toe-touch: Practice practice practice! Do lots of leg lifts and squat jumps. Always strech before throwing any jumps! Make sure you condition and warm up properly b4/after practice!
    4 tryouts: Don't get intimadated by the judges! Just smile and do your best. If u mess up keep going like it was part of the rotine. If u mess up REALLY badly, chances are they will let you do it over
