How do you know if you are being defrauded in real estate?
Do title companies or the county send people on Sunday Mornings to get you to sign your title over to someone you have never heard of before, and say that if you don't sign the paperwork -they will charge you $500 for a no show and take you to court? I own the property outright and I got married months ago, and changed my name with the bank and the county-- but someone I have never heard of, wants me to sign title papers. I can't reach the bank on Sunday, so I am wary of being home.

No, of course not. Did you let him or her in the door? What did you do?

Of course not, don't sign anything and call the police at once.

Never sign anything that some stranger gives you.

This mystery person keeps calling and leaving messages. They did not come to my door either. I did not call them back. They left a message that it is a legal paper #14652CA11. Does anyone know what that means? I have had a stalker in the past and suspect that it is him hiring a third party to see if I am living at a residence that he suspects that I have moved to.. Police have been useless, even with a restraining order. Can someone research the legal paper number for me? THX.

That number is meaningless. Maybe if we knew the county and state we might be able to tell if it's a valid docket #. But you can do that yourself, by contacting the court clerk.

That this is being followed up on indicates, this may be an unscrupulous process server who is trying to legally serve you with a trumped up story.

If they call again, ask them to meet you Monday at your attorney's office.

It looks like a court case number.

You are in San Luis Obisbo County, California? I checked the court web-site, but don't see a way of looking up case numbers there.

The county clerk's office phoned me after I called in an inquiry regarding the Docket #. She reassured me that it is not a legal summons. I received another phone call from this person and told them that I would be happy to meet him at my attorney's office to discuss whatever he feels he needs to discuss with me. He confessed that he had been sent and paid , by an anonymous third party, to come to my door to take a picture of me and get my signature on a legal document that I am guilty of "alienation of affection". He felt it was ridiculous after thinking about what he is being paid for and agreed to tell his company, to tell this third party, that they couldn't serve me. It was an attempt of a foiled ex-bf , from three years ago, to try to sue me for breaking up with him. I interpret this as a form of harassment and third party stalking. I guess a CLETs and a RO does not work for certain nutjobs! CASE CLOSED.
