I am working on OPT EAD currently as I am on F-1 Visa (Student Visa). I need to submit a W-8BEN form for eTrade account as I made some changes in my address in my eTrade account so they are asking me to submit an W-8BEN form. Has anyone ever submitted form W-8BEN form and what is the use of this form? Can anyone help me in filling this form as I am not sure what should I fill. This is the form - https://content.etrade.com/etrade/extras/ETB_w8.pdf. Any help will be appreciated.

The form W-8BEN is used to exempt you from back-up withholding. It is relatively easy to complete.

Ok. I am not sure on certain sections what should I fill in there. I have filled like this-

Part-1
Section 1- I have put my name.
Section 2- N/A
Section 3- I selected Individual
Section 4- I wrote my Indian Address in Permanent Address
Section 5- I wrote my US address where I am living
Section 6- I wrote my SSN
Section 7- Not sure what should I write.
Section 8- Not sure what should I write.

Part-2
Section 9-a – I wrote India
Section 9-b- I left as it is.
Section 9-c- I left as it is.
Section 9-d- I left as it is.
Section 9-e- I left as it is.
Section 10- I left as it is
Section 11- I left as it is
