Hi, My father just laid linoleum in our kitchen today and every where you walk you are walking on what seems to be a big air pocket. When he did it he nailed a thin sheet of underlayment down, then laid the linoleum. He rented a roller and rolled it probably ten times. Tonight it is all buckled (bubbled). We have no idea what might have caused this. Maybe because it is above the basement (dampness, or cold), not glueing down the underlayment? Please help? Thank You very much.

As for the reason it could be a # of things. You should have glued the underlayment with a subfloor adhesive. A remedy to fix some of these air pockets is take a pin and poke a hole in the area that is bubbled up. If the glue is still tacky just press the air out of the pocket and lay a heavy object on the spot . Leave the object on the spot until it has adhered. If the glue is not tacky anymore you can get a syringe and fill it with adhesive. Then puncture the syringe into the hole you pressed the air out of. Be careful to not over fill this area. Repeat the steps printed above as if the glue was tacky. You can then take clear nail pollish and seal the hole.
