Both are benzodiazepines. 1 mg of Ativan is equivalent to .5 mg of Xanax.

According to my pharmacist, the half-life is of a benzo is four hours. That means it will decrease by half every four hours. If you take 1 mg, after four hours you will have .5 mg left in your bloodstream, then .25 mg. after eight hours, and so on.
