Crying but am I missing his cry to go out. Or had he already done it? The breeder said it will stop soon but I don't want him to think its OK tompoop in his crate.. Any advice? How often and when do you feed your pup? Same for trips outside or exercise, how often and when? "breeder said don't take him out at night or he will always want to" at what time of night do you mean? Your dog should always be let out or walked right before you go to bed and crate him.

Your puppy is a baby. He can't hold his bladder for an 8-10 hour period. Unless you're only sleeping 4 to 6 hours a night, your breeders advice is horrible.

Your puppy is too young to hold it all night. If you're ignoring his cry to go out, then he has no option but to pee or poo in his crate. You can only hold it for long before you have no choice.

Your puppy has to learn to go outside to potty. But at 9 weeks don't expect your puppy to hold it like an older dog will. He simply can't.

Taking him outside to potty won't condition him to wake up every night to potty. It will teach him that going outside to potty is what you want, what he should do.

When he's a year old and whining at night, that's when you have to consider that he may be conditioned to go outside at night. But at 9 weeks, it's a must, not an option.

When my family and I were raising our dog, our dog did the same thing. My dog would cry and cry all night till finally my mom let her out of the cage and she let the dog sleep with all the kids for the night. Ever since then my dog ,Harley, has slept with me in my bed every night.

If you have a doggie door all your problems are solved. All you have to do is slide the crate up to the doggie door. Make sure that the front of the gate is facing the doggie door and that's the door on the crate is open. Doing this gives your dog a opportunity to do his business when is He needs too , And a Warm comfy place to sleep at night

This is really not something I would recommend for a 9 week old puppy. At this age he needs to be supervised. You can't just expect him to come and go from the home whenever he wants and not get into trouble, maybe even fatal trouble.

This is not good advice.

I'm sorry my whole question didn't print. My 9 week old is quite good in the day and seems to love his crate. Since night 3 he goes out for a potty breat just before bed at as late as 11.30 pm then is quiet till 6am. When I hear him yelp and go down he has pooped and weed in his crate. My breeder said he will learn to hold it but I'm worried he'll get used to doing it at night in his crate. If I take him out in the middle of the night what time should this be and won't he start crying again as soon as I put him back?

He shouldn't get used to it because most dogs don't like messing int heir sleeping areas. He is still young, at 9 weeks he seems to be doing great! To be able to sleep from 11:30pm- 6am is a pretty long stretch for a baby.

I don't think it will cause a problem if you get up and let him out in the middle of the night. Dogs don't like to be interrupted during sleep anymore than we do, as he gets older and his bladder and bowels get stronger he will have less accidents.

What you are telling us doesn't ring any alarm bells for me, it seems like normal puppy behavior. Offer lots of positive reinforcement when he does his business outside, and use a good enzyme cleaner to clean the cage if/when he does have accidents.

Katie, please go back and read my post #2 and try to answer my questions. Size of your pup, amount of food, frequency of feeding and exercise all play into your dogs digestive cycle and determine when he needs to relieve himself.

Thank you so much for your answers in going to persevere for a while as I am. He is about 6kg and we feed him 3 times a day and he pops about 3 or 4 times a day
