    US tax return
    Hi,

I am an international student in the US. Since this year I am considered as an "alien resident" for tax purposes. I only got the form 1042-S. Income code 15. I have a gross income and the federal tax withheld is around 1000. What do I have to do to get the withholdings back?

    Thank you for you support.
    D.

Code 15 is scholarship or fellowship grant. It appears that this is taxable in your case that is why federal income tax was withheld. Read Scholarship and fellowship grants, Your U.S. Tax Return: The U.S. Income Tax Topics 1
Report income on form 1040 (if you are resident) and also report federal tax withheld.
