    Early ultrasound. Twins?
    Hello,

I know my exact date of ovulation. I got a positive home pregancy test at 8 days post ovulation. At 9 days, my beta HCG was 50. At 13 days, it was 350.

I had a pelvic ultrasound at 5 weeks 3 days. Here is a link to my u/s:

My Dr. Pointed to one fetus (shown with pink arrow) but since I didn't have a full bladder, she asked to come back next week for better pictures (she doesn't like transvaginal ultrasounds).

Fraternal twins pregnancies often have a " twin peak" or triangular shaped separation (I seem to have one in my ultrasound... shown with yellow arrow). Am I reading too much into my u/s? What is then this black triangular sac next to the gestational sac pointed by my Dr. In my u/s?

    Best Regards

    Hi nadinel61,

Often times black in an ultrasound is fluid. It may be residual blood, which can sometimes happen. This is one reason some women experience some spotting or bleeding in early pregnancy.

What did your doctor have to say? What was seen in other views? Your hcg levels are on the mark for the days tested, so there isn't anything unusual in regard to that. However, since there is such a wide range of values that fall within the norm, levels are not conducive for determining possible multiples, or dating, unless there is a more pronounced difference in what would be expected. Ultrasound will be the determining factor.

You will know more when you have the next ultrasound. One several weeks later, would give you an even better indication of what is being seen. Twins would certainly be exciting! Keep us posted on your results... :)
