A person is standing 40ft from a flagpole and can see the top of the pole at 35 degrees angle of elevation. The person eye level is 4ft ftom the ground what is the height of the flagpole to the nearest tenth
Use the tangent function:
Tan(35 degrees) = h/d
where h = height of the flagpole above the person's eyes and d = distance = 40 feet. Solve for h. Then the total height of the flag pole is h plus the 4 feet corresponding to the person's eyes above the ground.
