Can I replace a hunter remote unit with a hampton bay unit?
A Hunter fan came with the house. It runs (ran) entirely off a remote control. It is an old house and there isn't a mechanical switch. After reading all of the terrible reviews for Hunter remote control units, I purchased a Hampton Bay remote control unit. After removing the fan from the ceiling, I recognized that Hunter has a more elaborate system with many colored wires which I suspect control each light and each fan speed. There isn't a diagram that indicates what each wire operates.
How can I use the simpler (and more reliable) Hampton Bay remote control?
Where I can obtain a wiring diagram for the Hunter fan model 21871A-420?

If the fan originally had a built-in (internal) remote receiver then it CANNOT be retrofitted with an after market remote system.
