Hi

My spouse is on H1B visa and I am on H4 visa. We need to file our taxes jointly for 2011 tax return. I do understand I need to submit W7 and notarized passport copy for the same.
My question is
1. Do I submit the federal tax return for along with W7 to get my ITIN?
2. How do I file state tax jointly?

1. Complete your tax return and attach W-7 forms and mail to ITIN processing center.
2. If the state does not allow you to file without ITIN, file the return after you get ITIN.
