Hello I am wondering if I give up my parental rights to my child if I still have to pay child support in the state of Missouri. Reason for asking is since my child's birth in 95 I have only seen him once on his third birthday and every time I find out where they live they move so I can never have contact with him.

The only way you can give up parental rights is by law. If you did not go to court or sign a legal document stating you were not interested that child then you have the right to see that child. And if the mother of the child will not allow you to see the child you can in deed take her to court and fight for your rights. But, you do want to think, do you want to be part of this child's life for the rest of his life. (I hope you do.) If you do, then good luck to you and I truly hope everything works out. :)

To my understanding you owe support of that child until readoption. So if you currently have back support you will owe all of that and still accrue this unless the mother finds a father fugure to adopt. This aliminates the possibility of the child becoming a product of the state to support.

Tu use the worn out excuse of not being able to have contact with your child to try and get out of paying child support is a shame. If you were really concerned, you would be contacting a Family Law Attorney and do your best to get back in your child's life. Talk about not being fair to you as a Father - what is fair for your child?

This is a question that has been often asked here. If you had browsed around a bit you would have found several threads on the issue. All saying the same thing. You can relinquish your parental rights but NOT your parental obligations. As to fairness here. You claim that they keep moving, but your checks must go somewhere! You don't say if there was court ordered visitation. If so, then you can go to court and bring the mother up on charges for violating that order. So it seems to me you really haven't made much of an attempt to keep in contact. You are just looking for a way out of paying. Sorry, but that ain't going to work. If you want to be a part of your kids life, then fight for it. If you don't want to be a part of the child's life, then don't. But you have a responsibility to provide some support for the child and that you can't just give up.
