What is the risk of having a vaginal birth after having a previous c-section?
I looked online and it said that it's a 50% chance that the utaris can erupt

    Hi junior4131... welcome to AMHD,

It can depend on how the previous surgery was done, how long ago it occurred, and whether an induction is being used for the current birth.

Generally, with a transverse incision, there is roughly less than 1% risk of a uterine rupture when labor is allowed to start on its own. The risk does increase if an induction is being used and most often a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) will not be allowed in this situation.

For the majority of women, a VBAC goes perfectly well. Whether it will be an option available depends on where the mother lives and who her care provider is.

As long as things go well with the current pregnancy, she would be considered a candidate for a VBAC. Ideally, however, there would be a greater time span than a year between pregnancies for any subsequent birth... VBAC or repeat cesarean.

Here are a couple of reputable sites that will give you some more detailed information regarding statistics, risks, and pros versus cons. It is important to remember that repeat cesareans carry their own risks, so discuss the pros and cons of both options with the doctor or midwife and see if it would even be an option that her care provider would consider.
