    Can't drink water?
Hi all. I really struggle to drink water but it goes even further than that. I have trouble eating food boiled in water. If I eat boiled potatoes or veg after I have to have a glass of juice and keep drinking after a forkfull or two just to get them down. About an hour or two later up they come. Never failes. If I am making pasta or rice I have to use half milk or stock otherwise up they come. I have to add juice or diluted drinks to get water down. If I smell boiled water or tea I get a bad head ache and feel sick.I have been that way all my life. As a child I never ate Sunday dinner always a sandwich. I get tired of people telling me its all in my head. Its real, I live it every day. Has anyone out there the same symptoms or any advice on what causes this.

Sure, you could have an allergy to something in YOUR tap water.
How old are you and where do you live?
One problem with this question is that you are consuming water all day long, in the juices and foods you eat, whether fruit or vegetables or prepared products. So you can't say that you can't drink water. You'd have been dead a long time ago.

You need to do some experimenting before you start paying for expensive tests of a very rare condition. Boil some potatoes in a good bottled spring water, or even distilled water.
Ask the water dept what goes into the water, lye and fluoride and such. Yes lye, it is added to kill bacteria and is considered OK in small amounts. Yes it's the same stuff that goes into drain cleaners.
Answer back what you find out.

I used to be an army medic. Usually when one of the guys was unable to hold down water, he had become dehydrated. More importantly they had lost their electrolyte balance. So the first general course of action? To give them ringers lactate. Which we jokingly called "IV Gatorade". That really was what it was, aside from flavoring and coloring.

Now just to make a point, it IS possible to go to the other extreme as well, but it is really actually unlikely and hard to do. Also I would like to point out that Gatorade / ringers lactate isn't a substitute for water. It is a tool to re-balance the body into accepting water.

Use this as a general rule to determine if and if so how dehydrated you are. If you are well hydrated your mouth will never feel cottony stick to the roof thirst.(This is a sign of dehydration.)And your urine will be almost colorless or pale yellow.(Think lighter than lemonade.)Be aware you can be dehydrated and still absorb water.(And even I am often now that I'm out of the Army... too much caffeine... drives out water... )

As for stock, also rick in electrolytes (very light levels of sodium, think slightly lighter than sea level.) Too much salt pulls water out of your system. (dehydration) Too much your body is 'flooded' and can't do it's job. (hyponatremia)

I would suggest talking to your family doctor. If this is persistent there may be something that he can do. That's what Doctors are GREAT at doing! Solving problems. Medics just do a quick patch and keep you running, lol.

Thank you for the answers. I live in ireland and I know there is very high levels of fluoride in the water. I don't drink tea, coffee or caffeene drinks so caffeene is not a problem. I do sometimes wake up with my mouth feeling like a badger lives there. I am in my 50's but we are a bit backward in this country when it comes to medicine but that's only my opinion. If its not in a text book the doctors say it couldent be happening. I know I don't have an alergy to water but what I meant was I have trouble keeping plain tap or bottled water down. Is it possible to be dehydrated even though you intake fluid. As for the urine thing mine is never pail and a lot of the time very dark. I don't drink alchalol at all. So thanks again for your help and I will try make some changes and see if that works. Cheers
