My dog, a 7year old crossbreed, was dripping blood from his penis. Vet said nothing wrong and this is probably happening as there's a female dog on heat in the area, and he's getting aroused. When I stroke his head, he again starts dripping blood... Anyone with similar problems, or shall I speak to the Vet again?

I don't think the vet gave a very good diagnosis. The problem could be his prostate gland causing urinary tract infection. Without blood work being done it is impossible to tell. Second opinion is good idea, but the solution for prostate problem in 7 year old male dogs is neutering.

There is obviously something wrong is there female dogs in your area? Is e showing signs of pain? Take him back to the vet in cas it is something very serious.

Absolutely!

Totally agree with the second opinion, there could be a urinary tract problem, prostate problem or trauma of some sort to the penis. A penis shouldn't just bleed.

My Bernese Mountain Dog would get excited a lot when he was young and it irritated his penis causing bleeding. As he toned down the bleeding stopped. We did try to downplay anything exciting though. For instance, when we came in the house after an absence we would ignore him until he was calm. If he got excited during play we would stop the activity and switch to a calmer one.

Now, I know your dog is 7 years old, so this probably isn't the problem, but I do think that IF there is a female in heat nearby and your boy is getting aroused a lot it could be the issue. Is this your regular vet? Did he examine the penis and/or do a urine test? Is the dog drinking more or less than normal? Is he urinating more or less than usual? A second opinion might be in order so if you are still not satisfied with the vet's response I would probably see someone else. Trust your gut.

Well, I've taken my dog to the vet again, and after urine / blood tests, and x-rays, it resulted that he has 2 problems.. x-ray results came negative for kidney stones or cysts, but he's got a bladder infection so he's now on antibiotics. The second problem is he's getting too aroused, even with a simple cuddle, and that's why he's dripping blood. Now as you can all imagine, it's very heartbreaking that we can't cuddle him... so next step is neutering!! Thanks ALL XXXXX

Poor guy, no cuddles for a while, that will be difficult.
Thank goodness there were no stones and you got an answer that you can work with.
He's a lucky dog to have you and vice versa also, it seems.

Many thanks LadySam... YES it'll certainly be difficult for a while - he so enjoys cuddles and his daily head massage:):):):):):) We saved our dog from a dog sanctuary and we really spoil him as he deserves it so much. On the other hand, he really shows his love towards us!!
