My 6 month old staffy cross seems to be whining and won't settle at night before bed time. Usually she plays for a bit then goes off the sleep, now she doesn't seem to fall asleep for long and wants to play every 15 minutes (although she will walk off after about 5 minutes of play and go back to sleep. I have tried a few things, playing, giving her a treat, patting her, taking her outside and also ignoring her. Is there something wrong?

How long have you had your puppy for? Staffy's are high maitinience. They are hyper and are truly little (okay, big) bundles of energy. They are not your typical lazy, stay at home dog. She needs a rigirous exercise routine or you start to see some destructive tendencies. The best time to exercise your pup is about 1/2 hour after supper. This gives her ample time for her food to digest as well will allow her time to burn off all the new energy she has created. 6 months is like a pre teen in dog years. Think of the energy of a kid, they never seem to run out. A good long walk with some run time will be your best bet.

Thanks Aurora, I've had her from when she was 12 weeks old (a rescue dog, she was dumped at the pound when she was 3 weeks old). I do take her jogging with me, and we go quite a long way, but I've always done it before meals! I will try it after meals and see if this settles her a bit!
You are definitely right about the high energy! Very psycho puppy, but I wouldn't have it any other way :)

I commend you for the adoption option! She is a lucky girl to have found you. With in the next 6 months you will see her settle a little more, but she will stay a puppy long after most dogs start maturing. Got to love that breed. I have two bullies and they keep me on my toes at all times. If you could fit in two jogs, one morning, one evening (or one walk one jog) you will see a HUGE improvement. Keep us posted :)

I have exercised her after her meal and you are right, it settles her! Makes complete sense, I think I was just going by what I need, as I cannot exercise on a full stomach!
