I have the same problem with hot water pressure loss. 50 gal gas power vent ( american hwt ). The only thing different is the dielectric unions. The nipples on the tank do have a blue plastic lining on both sides. Also, I have 1/4 turn ball valves on both hot and cold sides of the tank, which is how I turned off the water. I called the place where I bought the tank (not big box store) and they told me they never heard of such a thing it must be the installer. BS it seems that its not just me. Help please

HORSE HOCKEY!! Happens all the time! You disturb the pipes when you replace a water heater. Sometimes minerals built up on the pipe walls breaks loose and clogs the system. Try this. In the faucet moist affected remove the aerator from the spout and check the screen. Can you get a full stream now? No? The shut the water off to the faucet and open it up. Check the inlets on the cartridge for trash. Now turn the water back on for a moment to flush out the supplies. Reassemble and test. Better now? If not let me know. Good luck, Tom

Thanks for the fast reply speedball1. Ya I realized that I was in the answer column and that wasn't going to get me to far so I re posted. I checked the screens and nothing major at all. Everything is affected even bathtub. Some one wrote about those plastic sleeves in the nipples. That you should remove one or all. Is this true? Also, we built 7 years ago Feb. so my house isn't very old. All copper. Just want you to know all details.

Try replacing the heat b trap nipples with 3/4X3" brass nipples. Good luck, Tom

One more question speedball. You are talking about the nipples that came on the tank right? The dielectric unions are OK?

Talked to the manufacturer, they told me to take off the nipples on the tank and take out the heat traps. I did that and after plugging the unit back in can you believe it threw a code to replace the whole electronic gas valve thing. Sorry about the non technical term, I forgot what they called it. I just bought the tank yesterday and when taking the heat traps out I never touched anything even close to it. BS!! After seeing the heat traps I can't believe I got as much water is I did. They just have little slits in them. I personally would rather have pressure than what those things save you in hot water. I didn't get to see the results in pressure yet but again after seeing the heat traps I know that was the problem.

Thanks for the update. I assume you took my advice and replaced the heat trap nipples with brass ones. Good job! Tom
