Iim pretty sure I got the snake to go past the trap but a few inches after that I won't go further. I'm don't think it's the clog itself because when I take out the snake nothing comes with it. Ideas anyone?

You are snaking from the overflow and not the drain aren't you? If you have a older home you might have a drum trap. Check the tub access to be sure you have a "P" trap. Let me know, Tom
