Illinois labor laws for store closing?
I am employed for a company that has decided to sell their store. We the employees have been hearing talks about it for about 4 months now, but whenever we try to get an answer from the corporate office they give us the runaround and say nothing is final. They have also already done a change of ownership inspection and the name on the mail has changed from the name of the current business. We have been hearing from vendors that the store is already sold and some of them say they have actually met the new owners. I guess my question is are there any laws protecting the employees rights to have some sort of notification as to when the store is closing ? They prefer a 2 week notice if I want to leave my job, shouldn't I receive the same respect ?

Are you organized with a labor contract? If the store has already been sold are you thinking the new owner mst give you notice? The new owner might be thinking of keeping on some good employees.

If there are enough employees, at that location) they will have to get a 30 day notice of the store closing. If the store sold, it would appear that the new owners would just hire the current workers, ( at least to start) Perhaps change out manager or management.

Go to city hall and check for the business license and cross reference if new license issued for that location
