Can you sue for defamation of character?
Hello I am trying to figure out if I can file for defamation of character. I was on a job for about a year an 3 mouths when all of a sudden a change on my job happen when someone started going around on the job stating that I look like a animal. After that day it was never the same on the job when I came in contact with does I associated with before that slander it was like a nightmare to me to feel like I was a circus attraction on my job people coming up to my line staring to see if what the was said about me was true or not and I felt humiliated. The last thing that happen to me before I was terminated was I was sent to another line where I was put in the middle of a production line on another line of production where it was that I could be looked at from both ends of the line where there where other employees in the plant just coming up to the line to and I felt and I heard things that put me in a more humiliated state of mind and depression. I clocked out early that night 6 hours early and that night I felt like I wanted to kill myself. To let you know I am married and have a son and I could not understand why all of this was going on. The next day I did not come into work I called and left a message to my manager asking for some time off because I was going through some mental illness. I was admitted into a crises center and spent three days in there. I was terminated from my job because I went past the three points you can only get up to in a year. I am taking abillify a depression medicine right now and I still have problems when I go out in public with paranormal. After reeding this could tell me if I have a case for defamation of character?

You can certainly sue, but I doubt that you will be successful. I am sorry that you had to endure what you thought was harassment and that you felt humiliated, but an opinion about your looks is just that... an opinion. You haven't been slandered.

This isn't defamation, but you might have a case for harassment, not against the company, bit against the employee. Still a long shot though.

Did you go to HR to complain? If HR did nothing to protect you from the harassment, that might give you a case.
