After I installed a new fan, the fan now turns on and off with it's remote control, and not with the wall on and off switch. Initially there was a fan that was turned on and off with a double wall on/off switch. When I dismounted it, coming from the ceiling there were three white wires connected together, 2 black wires connected together, one stand alone black wire, three stripped wires connected together, and one red wire. From the fan there wa one white, one black and one green cable. I connected the fans white to the walls three wite wires. The fan's black wire to the ceilings two black wires that were together. The fan's green wire to the three stripped wires from the wall. The stand alone black wire and the red wire from the ceiling I capped off not connecting them to anything. Now, the fan works perfect with the remote. But the on/off switch from the wall do not work! In other words I can have the wall switch on, and the fan will be on! What do I need to do to make the wall switch turn on/off the fan? Is it safe to operate the fan the way it is? Thanks

A wall switch is not needed for a remote controlled fan/light, but certainly can be used.

I believe the standalone black and/or the standalone red were switched legs from the switch. You now have the fan connected directly to constant live wires.

You will need to test each of the black and red to see which is switched, and connect the remote receiver input to the switched wire to allow the wall switch to control the fan/light power.

Keep in mind this will not control the fan or the light as it did before. All you will be doing is supplying power to the receiver, and then you will need to use the remote control to operate the fan and light.

I agree with TK. You will NOT be able to use the individual wall switches to control the fan, but you can use ONE of the wall switches to cut power to the fan, light, and remote at the same time. Depending on the remote it MAY turn back on when you restore the wall switch, or you make have to use the remote.

The way you have it now is perfectly safe.
