How do we wire remote fan/light so the light is only on a switch?
We just bought a Kendal remote control ceiling fan and light for the upper hall. We want the light to work only on a wall switch, so we can turn the light off either upstairs or downstairs. We want the fan to work by remote. How do we wire this?

Do you already have a 3 way switch installed with wiring that reaches this ceiling box? Is there a second cable going to this same ceiling box?If no then a second remote can be purchased and programmed to control the fan from up stairs.

Yes... there is a 3 way switch with wiring going to this box. No there is not a second cable going to this same box.

Is the cable in the ceiling box 2-wire (black and white) or 3-wire (black, red and white)?

You probably can't. Most of these new cheaper fans will only work by the included remote, and you cannot separate the fan function from the light function.

With a 3 way switch setup and a remote things may get confusing for you. You can turn the power on to the fan with either switch but the fan and light are ultimately controlled by the remote. One switch must be turned ON first to do anything and then you can start/sop the fan and the light. You will not control the fan separately from the fan with the switch. If a second remote can be purchased just use that and stop using the wall switches altogether.
