I didn't go to jail or anything. The cop gave me a citation and said make sure you go to the court date. They gave me the citation at the store and then let me go.

If you are not on bond you are free to travel.

One more question, I only got caught with shoplifting max $11 but I have to go to court. Should I plead not guilty? Will this go on my record? If so how long will it stay on my record? Will I be able to get it off? I am freaking out. This is my first offence I have nothing on my record not even a speeding ticket/ parking ticket. I don't know what to do. Do I need an attorney, or what happens?

We can keep this question alive a bit longer while we wait for someone with more legal experience. I knew that answer to your initial question but can't give legal advice regarding a plea. How old are you and how/who saw you shoplift?

But I gave the merchandise back and I cooperated with the security officer and cop. I just don't know what to do.

You are not going to jail for this offense, likely a fine and probation but it could create empoyment issue for you down the road depending on your career. Have you looked in to what an attorney would cost to defend you?
