When in VOP in New Jersey, what are steps to take?
Our son hasn't reported to his PO for over a month. He is also in addictions counseling, and has relapsed. His fear of testing dirty and then not being able to get into Detox/Treatment paralyzed him. Will submitting himself to treatment have any impact with his PO? My advice was for him to come clean with his PO, and to reference the orgs who are trying to help him get treatment. Of course, he wasn't suppose to test dirty while on probation. Catch 22. He needs Detox/Long Term Treatment. Should he be honest with his PO?
Obviously, he will have to deal with the consequences of violating, but will they let him get treatment first? He also has severe, untreated depressive disorder. Trying to reassure him that best way to handle is straight forward. Any other council on how he can approach the PO? Much gratitude... Family who volunteers with addicts.

He most likely may already have a warrant out for him, he can not just refuse to see the PO.
He has really no choice but to go in and see the PO. Unless the Detox treatment was part of the court order, the PO could care less what he "plans on doing" the PO hears what people plan to do all the time, he only cares what they are doing NOW and if they are following the orders of the probation.

So he goes in and tells the PO the truth and hopes for the best. Or he sits at home and waits for them to come get him.

    Hello P:

People DO have worth, but the state wants its pound of flesh first. The Padre is right. They're not there to HELP.
