    About citizenship
I am a scholar from Egypt, and we are of course Egyptians. My wife born her first child as we reached USA.
What is the status of our child, can the child obtain the american citizenship or not and under what conditions? And what is the status of us (his father and mother).
Also I'd like to ask about converting the visa J2 to F1 upon obtaining a scholarship sponsored by american universities.

If the child was born inside the US, then the child would have legal status as an Americian citizen ( while also still having legal status as a citizne of Egypt)

This does not really change the status of the parents

Any person BORN in the US is a US citizen. I don't know what that does to your status, you'd have to ask or check with the INS.. but I understand that many illegal immigrants actually strive to bear "anchor babies" as it makes their transition to citizenship easier. This is a constant topic on talk radio shows and there is much discussion abound if you look into it.
