I just joined this site after reading a similar, but not identical question to mine.
I feel silly but I am curious about others opinions on this. I am a very normal, stay at home mommy. I don't drink except for on special occasions and only wine, have never used drugs, married to a mechanic working towards becoming a fireman. Everything about my life screams normal.

I was raised Catholic and we go to church when it works with our baby's nap time but are not hugely religious.
But sometimes at night I feel off and the only thing that I can describe it as is badness in the house. I can't sleep right, I have awful dreams and wake constantly to noises that I think are coming from my dreams but I swear I hear them in the house. I feel like spirits, bad ones, are passing through. This has happened twice now since we moved into this house about 8 months ago. We bought it from the owner/builder who had a very normal family... so I don't think there is any odd history with the house.

So I guess my question is... do spirits pass through homes at night?

Spirit activity is multiplied at night. Why specifically, we don't really know. There are some very superstitious answers out there. Personally I believe it simply has something to do with the darkness and quietness of night. But that really has nothing to do with anything. The spirits are most likely there all the time and simply manifest at night.

As you are coming to find out (and I personally know), attending church does not give you immunity to spiritual activity. The bible does not state it and in many cases suggests quite the contrary. What the Bible DOES teach us is how to deal with these problems when they cross our path. I personally know the things you are experiencing because I have dealt with them myself on a number of occasions. This activity you are talking about is very common, more so than anybody will ever realize I think. You're not crazy and your story is quite believable.

This might SEEM off subject, but my first question to you is this... why do you attend church? Do you actually believe it or is attending just a positive social aspect in your life?

Has your husband or child has any experiences in the home? Even if he hasn't mentioned it to you, you might want to specifically ask him. You'd be surprised how many men experience things but won't talk about it because they are the "man of the home".

I guess my next question is... can I do something to make this presence or feeling leave? I love attending church and find great solace there. I believe greatly in the teachings of Christ and try to live my life accordingly. The first time I felt this I noticed my son and husband slept terribly too but last night they seemed peaceful enough. I am currently expecting our second... due in a couple months. I will ask my husband if he has noticed anything...

The home I grew up in with my father had a ghost that I, my dad, and his girlfriend all experienced on a rather regular basis but this feels like something passing through...

If you are asking if something you are doing is creating this presence, I would say no. This isn't an atmosphere of energy we are speaking of so much as it is a real and personal entity. You're not making it, it's an actual spirit being. When a spirit comes out of nowhere, it can take some time to find out WHY it is there. It may or may not have something to do with the spirit you experienced in your home as a child.

Spirits have been known to manifest in someone's life, seemingly disappear only to come back many years later. They are patient and deceptive. You mentioned the term ghost and I want to make it very clear I do not believe the human spirit remains on earth after death. The bible teaches quite the opposite of that in fact. It would be demonic.

As far as you describing the presence as passing through, I guess I'm not following what you mean. Can you describe more what you mean by that. I have no doubt it may feel "darker" than the ghost you experienced in your youth. Don't judge a spirit by how it's presence makes you feel.

I haven't read the bible for many years though I plan to again once my children are of age as I think the teachings are important. But I am curious about what you stated... the bible teaches against the possibility of ghosts... but not spirits? Are spirits not in any way connected then to the human world?
The ghost or visitor in my fathers home was there for a few years. My dad and I never spoke about it. I saw it twice and oddly enough, both times I first thought it was my mom and even said, mom. But when it turned to me, it was deformed looking with an unhinged jaw... if that makes any sense. My mom came to our house to see me as a teenager as she and my dad had and have a good relationship. Anways, my dad and I never spoke about the ghost until one day he complained that I was so loud at night in the kitchen that I always woke him... but of course, it wasn't me and no one else lived with us. His girlfriend, who stayed over at times, woke up one night and said, There is someone in this house and it doesn't want to leave. Years later, my father let me rent the house prior to getting married and settling down, and I knew the ghost was gone and I never saw it again.

This feeling in my current house is just unsettling and makes me physically feel ill... and my dreams all revolve around an intruder trying to get in. I did notice last night that my dog wouldn't stop pacing and kept wanting to be let outside. Anyway, my mom suggested waking, turning on a light and praying for whatever it is to be taken out of the house and for only Gods grace and goodness to remain. I thought that as good advice.

Hi there mummyto2, I've just been reading this interesting thread. I am a spiritual healer and have had similar experiences to you. Haunting helper had given you a lot of valuable information. Even if you are Catholic, you can ask your spirit guides (similar to the guardian Angel concept) to protect you and your family each night. Sometimes when I wake up afraid and feeling there is a bad spirit nearby, I call on my spirits to protect me. It has a canning effect on me and the tension in the atmosphere seems to dissipate. It is also possible to tell the spirits bothering you that they're not welcome in your home, at least if they are going to behave in a way that frightens you (think teenager is misbehaving and it's time for them to move out!) That's exactly it... the bible teaches us against what we know as ghosts... but not against spirits. It is quite clear that after death we are given to our eternity, whichever that may be. So in the end, the only two spiritual forces we have interacting on earth with us are either angelic or demonic. There are no inbetweens. Now the part that trips people up is that some spirits are obviously more wicked than others... and that is exactly in line with biblical teaching. Some are more subtle, some are more forward, some are more wicked, some are more powerful... in the end they are still just demons. Angles do exist and interact with us, but if you would use the Bible as a guide, so to speak, you'll see that angels have a different role to play than what people think they are. Some out there are given to the assumption that any light being or spirit that comes bringing "peace" is an angel. This is the dangerous reality of demons.

2 Corinthians 11:14, 15: "...for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness."

It is clear here we cannot judge spirits by their appearance nor by their presence. Fear is not a give away... almost every angelic encounter with a human in the bible had the person on their face with fear.

Understanding, then, that the majority of spirits dealt with in this world are indeed demonic, then helps you to know how to deal with them.

1 John 4:1 is key to this: "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God..."

Now, while your mother's advice was with a helpful intent, it is not how God shows us in His word to deal with a spirit. Yes, God is merciful and good, but He is also not going to do everything for us. He doesn't remove spirits... WE do by HIS authority. It is by His name, but it is up to us to do so. Asking God to remove a spirit 99% of the time is not going to happen. He specifically gave that task to His church. I can't tell you how many times I prayed for the presence that I dealt with to go away... it never did, until I took that given authority, understood what it was and used it.

Jesus is our model, our hope and the only bridge we have to God the Father. He gave us His life as an example. Not only did He give the task of confronting spirits to believers (those who are BORN-AGAIN), but He also showed us HOW to do it. In every instance He came across a spirit, he COMMANDED it. He didn't wish it away, He didn't ask for it to be removed... HE removed it... as did the first century church. The apostles didn't pray for God to remove these things either, THEY removed them with a COMMAND. They understood their spiritual authority and they used it.

It's important to understand we don't deserve salvation nor do we deserve this authority... they both are a gift THROUGH Christ Jesus and that is something we have to remember every time. WE don't have authority or power over any spirit. Jesus does, but He gave us His name to use in that situation. It is BY Him that we take a stand against every evil power.

Your home does not need to be blessed by a priest, it needs for you and your husband to take a stand against spiritual invasion. Now I know doing this may not be something you are prepared to do nor fully understand. It is perfectly fine for you to call upon the church for help in this matter. If you are Catholic then by all means go to your church. I personally find that the Full Gospel or Pentecostal churches have a better grasp on this than a lot of others but in the end denominationalism simply does not matter, it is man made anyway.

Now if your priest simply wants to do a home blessing I strongly urge you to find someone else as that is probably a sign that he doesn't know how to handle those spirits. Know that myself and others are here if something comes up. I am more than happy to help in any way that I can.
