Why did they take so many hairs?

The standard for hair drug testing is about 120 hairs. A sample about the diameter of a pencil. See as example here.

You've got me there. I believe there is a way to make an attachment but don't know how to do that either. Perhaps you could inquire in one of the computer forums on this site.

Would like to have a look at it for you.

"Go Advanced" in the Answer box. A little paperclip will appear at the top of the box. That will allow an attachment.

***ADDED*** Yay -- you did it!

Where was this sample taken and what did they use to cut your hair? At least 10X the needed hair was removed and obviously in a careless and imprudent manner. There is no possible justification for that.

It may well be they felt the length was a issue and wanted a wider sample, or it is just this drug labs procedure. Honestly only the lab can really answer that issue.

The picture clearly demonstrates sample acquisition that is not in conformity with industry practice or testing requirements. The amount of hair removed is far in excess of amount needed.

Should the collector have deemed his hair too short (at 1/2" it is not) then the proper procedure was to obtain the sample from an alternative site being axillary or pubic.
