Can anyone put a lien on your Certificates of Deposit (CDs)?
I have some credit card debt from 26 years ago. Nobody has tried to collect it so far may be because I didn't have much income & I was self emplyoed & I had moved.

Now I have some income & I have put some money in my checking account & some in Certificates of deposits.

I don't even remember how much I owe & would like to work out some kind of Payment in installments but I am afraid if I contact them, they might wipe out my checking account & CDs in my bank.

Question is how should I approach to this situation & whether the money in CDs is protected from any kind of liens from anyone ?

I'm the last one to want anyone skipping out of credit card debt, but I think that after 26 years your debt has long gone to a collection agency and been deleted from the card company records, and probably the agency too. Debts are bundled and sold and resold but I doubt that anyone has you on file now.
What does your credit report say?
Have you had credit cards or other credit since?
If all is Ok, put what you owe to good use in charity to balance what is right.

I'm not saying that you don't have a judgment against you, which doesn't expire. So you could technically still owe. I'm saying that if it just went to collection then the statute of limitations (by state) is past.

I have one MasterCard for about 23 Years & they kept giving me more & more credit as I spent more.

I still have it & I am using it.

Still the question is that can anyone whether court or collection agency put a lien on Bank Certificates of Deposits or are they immune to such a situation. I know that they can put a lien on Savings & checking accounts.

I like your Idea of Balancing with charity.

    Thank You

A CD is a savings account and it is attachable. But they would need a current judgment to do so. So you need to check if a judgment is in force. If there isn't one the Statute of Limitations to obtain one has long past.
