Replace pull chain light with 2 separate switched lights

We need more info. Please tell us what u are trying to do.
Where are switches? On wall or on cord to lights.

Do u have to install switches for new lights?

Will the lights be surface mounted or hung on chains or recessed?

These are some of the things we need to know. What ever other info u can supply would be very helpful.

Switches will be on wall and yes have to install(ed) new switches. Lights will be mounted on ceiling. Wired one light already, worked fine. Tried wiring 2nd light same as first but now both swithes control both lights. Want each switch to control only one light.

From your post, the power is in the box on ceiling. You will have to run a line from the power to light #1 and another line to light #2. Then a switch leg from switch #1 the light #1 and a switch leg from switch #2 to light #2.

Can u be more specific? (What wires go where etc.)

First thing-turn of breaker that controlled old pull chain light.

Hook up 2 cables to the power line with wire nuts and run one each to the location of each new light. U should have 3 black, 3 white and 3 ground wires.

Run a cable from switch #1 to first light. At switch hook black, white and ground to switch. Hook ground with pigtail to box. Mark whits wire with black marker as this will be a hot leg.

At the light wire nut white wire from switch to black wire from power. Mark white wire with black marker.
Wire nut black wire from switch to black wire from light. Wire nut white wire from light to white wire from power. Wire nut all ground wires together with a pigtail attached to box.

Do the same for switch #2 to light # 2.

Turn on breaker. Should be good to go.

Didn't work. Now both switches turn on/off both lights. I want each switch to only control one light. Help.

Take a look at "need help ASAP" in this forum. It has a drawing of a 3 light 3 switch set up. Just eliminate one of the light switch set and you have what you need. The date on that post is 2/23/2012.

If u wired your set up as I described you would have 2 separate feeds and if one was shut off would not effect the other unless you have another problem.
