I think the key ignition is bad on my escort. Is there a way of bypassing the key... to start the car from under the hood? Also is there a way to unlock the automatic transmission from park so I get it to move?

If you have a floor shift there is a button/switch that can be pressed to allow you to shift the car out of park.
