    Child tax credit query
I came to US in April 2010. The federal and state tax return for 2010 was filed in March 2011. While applying for federal return, I also applied for ITINs for my wife and son. The documents were prepared through privae tax consultant but I did not claim child tax credit for year 2010 federal return asI was not aware of it. Now the same tax consultant is saying that this year(2012), while applying for 2011 federal return, we can amend 2010 year tax return to claim chil tax credit for 2010.
My question is "Can we claim child tax credit when we apply for ITINs for spouse and child?" I applied for ITINs in last year(2011) only. So was it possible for me to claim child tax credit at that time only?

    Thanks.

You COULD have gotten the tax credit when applying for the ITINs for the 2010 return.

Your tax consultant SHOULD have known that, so, if he amends the return, you should NOT be paying any amendment charges. It is HIS mistake, and he needs to FIX it.
