Did you replace the clutch? It sounds like it's slipping and it's like the clutch on a car.

Could be the clutch going out buy I only see this problem on "high mileage" washers. Most likely you have transmission fluid leaking into your clutch linings. Another possibility is your basket hub is slipping. I also have seen a weak motor cause the same problem. Most of the time, it's a leaking trans. Very expensive fix.
