I have this child in my custody and the mother is no where to be found we have been advised to file abandonment so we can adopted the child but don't really have the money for a lawyer so I need help to know what I can do please... I live in tx the child has been with me for about 6 months and I also have power of attorney of the child signed by the mother

What is your relationship to the child? Where is the father?

You don't file abandonment, you file for adoption and use abandonment as grounds. But I suggest that your first step would be to apply for legal guardianship. This would be easier to get and would not require that you try to get both parent's approval for an adoption.

You can pursue adoption later on once you can afford an attorney's assistance.
