I was a F1 student and I filed my tax using turbotax continuously(blindly) two years in a row. I have now acknowledged that I made a mistake. I want to know how can I fix this and how should I return the extra money that I have received from the government.

File amended tax returns (Form 1040X) alongwith properly done nonresident tax returns and form 8843.

Common problem.

MukatA accurately says how to fix is, except you need to write "AMENDED" on the first page of the Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ, which is attached to the Form 1040X with the Form 8843.
