My dog has lost lots of weight very fast, he has gone down hill in the past 24 hour,
My male dog, aged 8 has lost huge amounts of weight in the last two days & has gone down hill in the past 24 hours, he was OK yesterday, running about, not as fast as normal with our other dogs but today seems to of deteriated before our eyes, he was sick this afternoon & was reluctant to go on his normal walk & had to be carried home, he is off his food & is only drinking small amounts. When checking on him this evening he looks like something from a neglected dog advert & my husband has noticed a lump under his back leg on the left side under the joint of his back leg up to his belly, his nose is wet & cold but he is unwell, I am taking him to the vets tomorrow & am very worried about him. Has anyone else had the same sort of thing with their dog? I'm worried he's got cancer & we will loose him, we have lost a dog before to cancer but he didn't get this ill so fast... Please, any info would be great xxxxx

The only advice I can give here is to make sure you keep that appointment. And I wish you the best.

Is there any way you can get into the vet sooner? If he's deteriorating this quickly, within 2 days, then my main concern is that he may not make it through the night.

If you can't get in sooner then go to the drug store and pick up some pedialyte. Follow the directions on the bottle. This will at least keep him hydrated. Dogs die of dehydration far quicker then starvation.

I wish you all the best. I wish there's more we could do, but right now the vet is your only option, and the sooner the better.

Please keep us posted on his progress.
