My sons biological father and I came to an agreement where he wanted to pay a small amount of money to cover all of his back child support. He has not seen his son in over 9 years. I wrote him back stating I would agree to the amount as long as he signed over his parental rights to my fiancŽ (we are getting married in less than a month). He agreed to this, however said my fiancŽ would have to adopt him and we are responsible for all costs and work related to that. I am fine with that, but don't know where to start or what to do, or even what kind of costs we are looking at. Could you please let me know where I could even begin with this? You retain an attorney to prepare the adoption petition after you have satisfied the requirements (usually have to be married at least a year). Part of the petition will the father's relinquishing rights.
